Lower Electric Bill and Fans
Did you know you can obtain a lower electric bill by using ceiling fans? Ceiling fans are a popular addition to any room. With the flip of a switch you can have cool air circulating throughout the room.
Use a ceiling fan instead of an air conditioner to save energy costs. Most ceiling fans use 50-90 watts of energy just to operate. A central air conditioner can use 2000-3000 watts of energy. Window air conditioning units use 600-800 watts of energy.
A ceiling fan obviously uses far less energy. As summer temperatures rise, flip on that ceiling fan to cool down. Delay using the air conditioner as long as you can. The longer the delay, the more energy you will save.
Obtain a lower electric bill by using that ceiling fan for short-term cooling. For long-term cooling, consider that air conditioner. Look at the clothing you are wearing as well. Are there other cooler, lighter fabrics that you could put on that would help keep you cool?
Make sure that you are also properly hydrated. As you sweat your body loses water. Replenish that loss by increasing the amount of water that you drink on high temperature days. Surprisingly, this is another way in which you can obtain a lower electric bill.
Flip off that switch if you are leaving the room. Ceiling fans only work to cool people. Starting up a fan requires a surge of energy. This quickly diminishes as the fan reaches its full speed.
Consider reducing the speed on the ceiling fan. This is the best option if only one person is in the room. A cool breeze from a ceiling fan does a lot to cool a person compared to a room full of people.
Implement these simple steps when running your ceiling fan and you will be surprised at the immediate savings you will see on your utility bill!
